What happened at the Meeting??

During Tuesday's night meeting we had five members present, with one new member, all the way from Warsaw, IN. We also had another member from Hicksville, OH.

YES, people this is a real town, matter of fact, it's where I grew up and graduated from high school.

There were some hand outs:
  1. An article from FabShop News - Issue 76 - June 2010, it was about the Modern Quilt Guild. There will be another article in the July issue.
  2. Project Modern...more information on this later.

We talked about having meetings on a Saturday or Sunday....possibly alternating the days. We also talked about doing an 'all-day sew', where you bring you sewing machine & project and sew all day (well maybe not ALL day) without any distractions from family, tv, etc.

So, as soon as I talk to a few places about the availability for us to work, I'll let you know the date and time. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know and I'll contact them as well.

Show & Tell
Everyone one brought a quilt to share, whether it was finished or not....wish I would of remembered the camera to take pictures...Sorry about that folks! We also shared some quilt patterns.

Angie brought a table runner with "Little Pink Houses"! It looked great...she's thinking of making another one in a different colorway. Angie also shared some of her favorite quilt patterns, which consisted of "Just Ducky" and "Just Ducky Sports"...both can be purchased from Clotilde.com.
She also shared one of her favorite books, which had some different renditions of Log Cabins. (Sorry Angie, I cannot remember the name of the book, but if anyone who attended remembers, let me know and I'll get it posted correctly.)

Jenny shared with us her 'quilt as you go' quilt. The top of one is done and she is working on another one. You can see pictures of some of blocks here and here on her blog, Cut.Sew.Iron.Repeat. She did not bring a pattern, since the her favorite is Log Cabins, which is the quilt pattern she's using right now in the 'quilt as you go' quilts.

Millie showed us her first mini-quilt that she made with a local group in Warsaw, IN. The mini-quilt was made using a fence rail design and the colors were fall-ish, which will look great hanging up in a few months, since fall is just around the corner. Millie also shared with us a baby size quilt that she pieced together..it's ready to be quilted..it was also fence railed based. She even brought a few non-quilty items...2 purses...they were great looking...really wish I had that camera...there's always next time.

Marie's quilt was huge...king-size...and it looks great! Inspired by City Quilts by Cherri House. If you go to Amazon.com you can look inside the book and on the back cover is a black & white quilt, which is the one Marie did, but in Navy Blue, Periwinkle, White, and a few others that I don't remember....the quilt looked amazing. I hope she brings it back when it is all finished, I'd love to see how she quilts it.

Last, but not least, I shared my blocks that I'm working...you can see my fabric selections here, which also has my quilt pattern that I'm using...square within a square. I'm using the technique from Cluck, Cluck, SEW.

One thing we did not get to at the meeting is a logo design for Fort Wayne MQG...if you have any thoughts, please let me know....you can e-mail me ditommaso(dot)claire(at)gmail(dot)com.

(really wish this post had pictures...i'm really, really, REALLY sorry about that!)

August Meeting

Tuesday, August 17, 2010
6:30 - 7:30pm
Allen County Public Library: Dupont Branch

Make sure you mark your calendars with the date above for our meeting. Please note the location..it will be at the Dupont Library this time.....we'll be in the small meeting room.

I would like everyone to bring a quilt that they have either just finished or are currently working on. If you are not working on a quilt, but it is a sewing project, bring that instead. We'll be taken picture to be posted on the blog. If you are working on more than one quilt/project and you'd like to share both, that is fine, but let's keep it a maximum of three quilts/projects, so we do not run out of time.

Also please bring your favorite quilt pattern, it can be anything that you like. I'll post the quilt patterns as a reference on our blog, so that everyone can view. The pattern can be an original that you created, out of a book, a magaine, etc, just make sure you bring a reference, so we can give credit where due.

I hope to see all of you there!

Thanks, Claire

Welcome to Our New Site!

As most of you know already ning.com has made it so that you have to pay to have a website with them.

So, please be patient with our new site as it is still under construction. I'm hoping that we'll have some interesting items up soon.
